Introduction
This WebQuest will share different perspectives of colonists during the years leading to the American Revolution.
At the end of this WebQuest you will complete an exit ticket. Your exit ticket will appear in the gradebook as a formal formative. The resources and learning in this activity will help you prepare for The Question of Independence major summative.
Between the years of 1763 and 1774, Britain and its American colonies were in a philosophical and economic debate over whether colonists should be taxed if they did not have representation in Parliament. At the time there were many different interests and ideas about how to resolve this. In the colonies especially, there were generally three camps: those all for breaking with Britain; those who wanted to keep things the way they were; and even those who didn't feel strongly in either choice.
You are a Virginia colonist that has been following the situation between Britain and the colonies very closely. You notice your neighbors taking sides, but you have not made your decision yet which argument you support. After all, you have reasons to agree with both. But being the skeptical and prudent citizen that you are you want to do some further research to make an informed choice.
You've heard that other Virginians are in a similar situation to you. They are meeting at a local inn to share their thoughts. When you arrive at the inn, you meet with 2 or 3 others discussing the reasoning behind the Patriots and Loyalists. Hearing their opinions is helpful, but in the end you must answer for yourself:
Will you become a Revolutionary? Or remain a King's Friend?
